About Tel Afek National Park
The remains of Antipatris are known today as Tel Afek. It has been recognized as biblical Aphek, fine known from the story of the Battle of Aphek. During the Crusader Period the website online was referred to as Surdi fontes, "Silent springs". The Ottoman fort called Binar Bashi became constructed there in the sixteenth century. Antipatris/Tel Afek lies at the strong perennial springs of the Yarkon River, which at some stage in records has created an impediment between the hill us of a to the east and the Mediterranean to the west, forcing travellers and armies to skip thru the slim pass among the springs and the foothills of Samaria.
This gave the region of Antipatris/Tel Afek its strategic significance. Currently, the web page of Antipatris is included in the countrywide park "Yarkon-Tel Afek", beneath the jurisdiction of the Israel National Parks Authority, incorporating the region of the Ottoman citadel, the stays of the Roman town and the British water pumping station.
