Dome of the Rock

The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic place of worship located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was at first finished in 691 CE at the request of Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik amid the Second Fitna, based on the site of the Roman sanctuary of Jupiter Capitolinus, which had thus been based on the site of the Second Jewish Temple, annihilated amid the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE. The first arch crumbled in 1015 and was remade in 1022– 23.

The Dome of the Rock is in its center one of the most seasoned surviving works of Islamic engineering.
