The Model. Home of The Niland Collection

The Model, domestic of the Niland Collection, previously known as Model Arts and Niland Gallery, is a modern-day arts centre and gallery space in Sligo, Ireland. The Model houses numerous exhibition spaces specializing in modern artwork and schooling sports, a set of 20th century Irish art called The Niland Collection, a cinema/venue for concert events, and an artist-in-house programme. The Niland a part of the name refers back to the former Sligo County librarian Nora Niland.

Located on the Mall in Sligo city, north of the Garavogue river, The Model is one in every of Sligo's most specific buildings, designed via architect James Owen for the then Board of Works. Its particular stonework well-knownshows excessive pleasant workmanship and its region, set back from the mall on an elevated site gives it a civic presence. It is a detached more than one-bay, two-storey rubble and ashlar stone building inside the Italianate Palazzo fashion. A picture of the Model faculty because it appeared circa 1944 is held on the Lawrence collection of the National Library of Ireland.
