About St Doulaghs Church
St Doulaghs Church is one among two church buildings inside the United Parishes of Malahide, Portmarnock and St Doulaghs in Fingal, Ireland. It is the oldest stone roofed church nevertheless in use in Ireland. The church is situated approximately 10 kilometers from Dublin metropolis, just north of the hamlet of Balgriffin. Its complex also comprises a stone pool-residence and an octagonal baptistry Ireland's simplest surviving standalone baptistry.
The oldest part of the church as it stands is medieval dating from the twelfth century, and believed to have been home to a small monastic agreement. However, in step with research on the site, Christian activity right here dates again to the time of St. Patrick. Hudson states that King Sitric of Dublin gave land at St Doulough's, Portrane and Lambay to Holy Trinit. In 1179, Pope Alexander III gave the church lands at Clochar to Laurance O’Toole, Archbishop of Dublin. So it becomes already church lands but there has been no mention of a constructing. In regard to the opposite sites stated within the papal document buildings are stated, suggesting that there was no useful building then at St Doulough's. The Canons Regular of St Augustine had by means of then been administering Christchurch.
