St. Aidan's Cathedral
About St. Aidan's Cathedral
St. Aidan's Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ferns. It is positioned in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, in Ireland. It turned into built in 1843 and was designed by means of Augustus Welby Pugin. The saint to whom the cathedral is dedicated is Maedoc of Ferns, also known as Aedan or Aidan, who died in 626, and not to be careworn with St. Aidan of Lindisfarne, an Irish missionary who died in 651. Notable capabilities consist of the façade, a reredos carved from Caen stone and a first rate north window with intricate stone tracery.
The cathedral was subsequently much renovated in line with reforms promulgated with the aid of the Second Vatican Council. It become restored to its close to authentic layout in 1994 when true hues, substances and techniques were used. The recuperation took a year, for the duration of which era cathedral services had been held at St Mary's church nearby. The cathedral is similar in structure to St Mary's Cathedral, Killarney.
