About Mountmellick
Mountmellick or Mountmellic is a town in the north of County Laois, Ireland. It lies at the N80 national secondary road and the R422 and R423 nearby roads. Mountmellick, every now and then spelt Montmellick or Montmellic, is an anglicisation of the Irish name Mointeach Mílic, which means that " bog of/by land bordering a river". Older anglicisations consist of Mointaghmeelick, Montaghmelick, Montiaghmeelick and Monteaghmilick. Mountmellick become a fifteenth-century agreement on the slender Owenass River with an encampment on its banks at Irishtown.
Overlooking this valley with its trees and flora and fauna turned into a small church referred to as Kilmongan which become closed by using the Penal Laws in 1640. The Quakers got here to the vicinity in 1657 led by means of William Edmundson.
