Mitchelstown
About Mitchelstown
Mitchelstown is a town in County Cork, Ireland with a population of about 3740. Mitchelstown is located inside the valley to the south of the Galtee Mountains, 12 km south-west of the Mitchelstown Caves, 28 km from Cahir and 50 km from Cork and 59 km from Limerick and 10 km from Fermoy. The River Gradoge runs through the metropolis into the River Funshion, which in flip is a tributary of the River Backwater. The town is high-quality known as a centre for cheese production.
The city developed as a hodgepodge of cabins and lane-approaches beside Mitchelstown Castle. Evidence could propose that the citadel changed into constructed first and that the village and town got here later, likely in overdue 13th or early 14th centuries. In the 1770s, the medieval town became replaced through the existing town that is located east and south of King Square. It was laid out in a grid pattern of two most important streets intersected with the aid of a number of smaller streets. The medieval city become demolished, and the then proprietors of Mitchelstown Robert, Viscount Kingsborough later second Earl of Kingston and his spouse Caroline constructed a brand new Palladian styled mansion to update the earlier fort which had stood on the web page.
