About Kenmare
Kenmare is a small city inside the south of County Kerry, Ireland. The call Kenmare is the anglicised shape of Ceann Mara, that means "head of the ocean", referring to the head of Kenmare Bay. Kenmare is placed at the head of Kenmare Bay, every so often called the Kenmare River, in which the Roughty River flows into the ocean, and at the junction of the Iveragh Peninsula and the Beara Peninsula. The conventional Irish call of the bay became Inbhear Sceine from the Celtic inver, that's recorded in the 11th Century narrative Lebor Gabala Erenn as the appearance point of the mythological Irish ancestor Partholon.
It is also placed near the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Mangerton Mountain and Caha Mountains and is a famous hillwalking vacation spot. Nearby towns and villages are Tuosist, Ardgroom, Glengarriff, Kilgarvan, Killarney, Templenoe and Sneem. The entire location become granted to the English scientist Sir William Petty by using Oliver Cromwell as part price for finishing the mapping of Ireland, the Down Survey in 1656. He laid out the current city circa 1670. Before him, a preceding surveyor of Ireland, Sir Valentine Browne, ancestor of the Earl of Kenmare, was granted a few lands in County Kerry in the course of the ensuing plantation, the Munster Plantation.
