About Cullahill Castle

Cullahill Castle became the essential stronghold of the MacGillapatricks of Upper Ossory built around 1425 and destroyed around 1650. In the village of Cullahill in County Laois, Ireland. Approximately one hundred metres out on the street up the nearby hill that offers the region its call. Built around 1425, possibly by means of Finghin MacGillapatrick. Reportedly came below attack on numerous activities by using the "sovereign and citizens of Kilkenny" underneath praise from King Henry VI. Such assaults have been said in 1441 and 1517.

It became attacked and partially destroyed with the aid of Cromwell's forces around 1650. It was likely attacked through cannon from a close-by hill. It became recorded as "ruinous and uninhabitated" in 1657. It is a tower-house rising to five storeys. Most of the northern element, such as the doorway, is missing. It is vaulted above the ground floor and has mural passages and chambers. A straight mural stairway rises to the top ranges. There are remains of mullioned home windows at the higher flooring of the fortress.
