Cathedral of St. Eunan and St. Columba
About Cathedral of St. Eunan and St. Columba
St. Eunan's Cathedral or the Cathedral of St. Eunan and St Columba as it is also recognized, is a Roman Catholic cathedral of the Diocese of Raphoe positioned inside the parish of Conwal and Leck in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. It becomes constructed among the years of 1890 and 1900 and there are Catholic cathedrals inside the county; with an older Roman Catholic cathedral of the same name is located within the metropolis of Raphoe.
The Cathedral opened on June 16, 1901 and is constructed in Victorian neo Gothic fashion on a site overlooking the city. It was designed with the aid of William Hague, the well known Dublin architect and protege of Pugin, and following Hague's loss of life via his associate T. F. McNamara. Saint Eunan's Cathedral has a spire with a height of 240 toes. White sandstone from Mountcharles became used in the production. It was shipped alongside the coast and up the Swilly. Townspeople carried bucket loads of the sandstone to the development site piece by using piece. The cathedral is supplied in oak, with a marble pulpit through Pearse Brothers of Dublin. The pulpit depicts statues of the Four Masters and the Four Evangelists.
