About Castleisland
Castleisland is a town and business centre in County Kerry in south west Ireland. The city is understood for the width of its primary street. As of the 2016 Census, Castleisland had a population of two,486. Castleisland became described via certainly one of its residents, journalist Con Houlihan, as "no longer so much a metropolis as a road between fields". Castleisland changed into the centre of Desmond electricity in Kerry. The village were given its call, 'Castle of the Island of Kerry', from a castle constructed in 1226 by means of Geoffrey Maurice. Maurice had been the Lord Justice of Ireland in the course of the reign of King Henry III.
The island was created via turning the waters of the River Maine into a moat around the fortress. Sometime in the a hundred and twenty years after its construction, the citadel became taken with the aid of the forces of the Earl of Desmond. It is thought that during 1345 the fortress turned into being held for the Earl of Desmond by Sir Eustace de la Poer and other knights while it became captured with the aid of Sir Ralph Ufford, Lord Justice of Ireland. Sir Eustace and the other knights were captured and finished. Little is thought of the further records of the fort and few ruins are left of it these days.
