About Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark UNESCO Global Geopark

The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark is an the world over specific region of geological hobby in County Clare, Ireland. It changed into the third Geopark to be particular in Ireland, and is acknowledged at both European and international stages. The geopark began as a mid-2000s project of Clare County Council and the local people, the "Environmental Protection of the Burren thru Visitor Management Initiative" that was funded and supported by the council, Failte Ireland, Shannon Development, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Burrenbeo Trust. The initiative evolved into BurrenConnect in 2006, with a committed venture manager.

Strong community participation and engagement endured at some point of, both civic and business. The geopark turned into formally mounted in 2011, beneath the control of the County Council, and with special aid and some investment from the Geological Survey of Ireland and Failte Ireland. The geopark secured club of both the European Geoparks Network and the UNESCO-assisted Global Network of National Geoparks in 2011. Global popularity have to be renewed each 4 years and changed into correctly renewed in 2015. The geopark gained the National Geographic World Legacy Award for Destination Leadership in 2016.
