Bohonagh
About Bohonagh
Bohonagh is a recumbent stone circle located 2.4 km east of Rosscarbery, County Cork, Ireland. The circle is concept so far from the Bronze Age. A boulder burial is sited close by. The stone circle comprised 13 stones set in a circle with a diameter of 30 ft. Four out of the thirteen stones are lacking and three had been re erected after excavation.
Two portal stones are set extensively on an east west axis to the recumbent stones and are 240 cm high. At simply under 8 feet, those stone are some of the tallest of any Irish stone circle. The axis from those stones to the huge axial-stone on the west side, points to sundown on the equinoxes. Many of the stones have quartz inclusions and plenty of small pieces of quartz are related to the circle. A boulder burial is sited 20m east of the circle, and its massive capstone weighing nearly 20 heaps has seven or more small cup-marks at the upper floor. Two of the 3 small assisting stones are of quartz and a fourth has been uprooted. A close by unfastened slab also features cup-marks. The complicated, which protected a timber residence which had been excavated, is of Bronze Age date.
