About Bantry House

Bantry House is an ancient residence with gardens in Bantry, County Cork, Ireland. Originally constructed in the early 18th century, it has been owned and occupied via the White own family formerly Earls of Bantry since the mid-18th century. Opened to the public for the reason that 1940s, the residence, property and gardens are a tourist destination in West Cork.

Bantry House at the beginning called 'Blackrock'3 was built in about 1710 at the South facet of Bantry Bay. In 1750, Councillor Richard White offered Blackrock from Samuel Hutchinson and changed the call to 'Seafield'. The Whites had settled on Whiddy Island across the Bay within the overdue 17th century, after having originally been merchants in Limerick. The circle of relatives prospered and good sized purchases of land had been made within the location surrounding the house. By the 1780s, Bantry House comprised about 80,000 acres, even though a whole lot of this will not be arable. The house has been open to tourism on the grounds that 1946.
