About Rabban Hormizd Monastery

Rabban Hormizd Monastery is a vital religious community of the Chaldean Catholic Church, established around 640 AD, cut out in the mountains around 2 miles from Alqosh, Iraq, 28 miles north of Mosul. It was the official living arrangement of the patriarchs of the Eliya line of the Church of the East from 1551 to the eighteenth century, and after the association with Rome in the mid nineteenth century, it turned into a conspicuous cloister of the Chaldean Catholic Church. The religious community is named after Rabban Hormizd rabban is the Syriac for priest who established it in the seventh century. In light of the distinction of Rabban Hormizd, the cloister he established turned out to be critical for the Church of the East.

It prospered until the tenth century. As of now, before the finish of the fifteenth century, the Rabban Hormizd Monastery filled in as the man centric internment site. Yohannan Sulaqa was priest of the Rabban Hormizd Monastery before his movement to Rome to end up the main Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church. In the vicinity of 1551 and the eighteenth century, the cloister turned into the official living arrangement of the patriarchs of the Eliya line of the Church of the East, which was the most established and biggest man centric See of the Church of the East, the just a single existing man centric line before the Sulaqa's 1553 part.
