Babil

Babil Governorate or Babylon Province is a governorate in principal Iraq. It has a place of 5,119 rectangular kilometres, with an expected population of 1,651,565 people in 2002. The provincial capital is the town of Hillah, which lies opposite the ancient town of Babylon, on the Euphrates river. The historic metropolis of Babylon in gift-day Babylon Province was the capital of historic Babylonia, located at the Euphrates river south of Baghdad, Iraq.

The town was occupied from the third millennium BC however have become crucial early in the 2d millennium underneath the kings of the First Dynasty of Babylon. The sixth king of this dynasty was Hammurabi who made Babylon the capital of a substantial empire and is quality remembered for his code of legal guidelines.
