About Al-Kadhimiya Mosque
The Al-Kadhimiya Mosque is a Shi'ite Islamic mosque and shrine located in the Kadhimayn suburb of Baghdad, Iraq. It carries the tombs of the seventh Twelver Shii Imam Musa al-Ka?im and the ninth Twelver Shii Imam Muhammad al-Jawad. Also buried within this mosque are the well-known historic students, Shaykh Muf?d and Shaykh Na?ir ad-Din a??usi. Directly adjacent to the mosque are smaller shrines, belonging to the brothers Sayyid Radi and Sayyid Mur?adha. The golden dome over the grave of Muhammad at-Taq? was re-gilded and unveiled to the general public in March 2008, in the course of the birthday celebrations of Muhammad and his descendant, Ja‘some distance as-Sadiq. Repair paintings at the dome over the grave of Musa al-Kadhim started in early August 2008, for the duration of the birthday ceremonies of Husayn ibn ‘Ali, ‘Abbas ibn ‘Ali, and ‘Ali ibn Husayn.
Repairs to the crumbling structure of the primary courtyard of the mosque and its surrounding rooms had been executed in 3 levels, spanning a duration of four months, earlier than the quit of 2007. The challenge entailed the stripping off of the vintage crumbling partitions during the courtyard, the addition of numerous reinforcements to the walls and ceilings, as well as maintenance on the electrical wirings for the duration of the mosque.
