About al-Faw
Al-Faw is a port metropolis on Al Faw Peninsula in Iraq close to the Shatt al-Arab and the Persian Gulf. The Al Faw Peninsula is part of the Basrah Governorate. The town lies at the south-east quit of the Al-Faw Peninsula on the right bank of the Shatt al-Arab, some kilometres away from the Persian Gulf. The Persian Gulf is a mediterranean sea in Western Asia. The body of water is an extension of the Indian Ocean thru the Strait of Hormuz and lies between Iran to the northeast and the Arabian Peninsula to the southwest.
The Shatt al-Arab river delta paperwork the northwest coastline. The city, as well as the entire Faw Peninsula, changed into the scene of armed conflict in the course of the World War I, the Iran–Iraq War, the Persian Gulf War, and the Iraq War due to its strategic function at the entrance of the Shatt al-Arab. The town was drastically broken at some point of the Iraq-Iran struggle, but in 1989 it become rebuilt in 4 months to a very new town plan.
