Gunung Leuser National Park
About Gunung Leuser National Park
Famous for Bukit Lawang, an Orangutan sanctuary, Gunung Leuser National Park is one among the many national parks in Indonesia. The park is situated in Northern Sumatra and covers an area of nearly 950,000 hectares. It is one of the very few places in the world remaining where you can see orangutans in their natural habitat. The best place to spot the orangutans is near the Orangutan Rehabilitation center and feeding center. The timings of feeding are 8 AM and 3 PM. Once you enter the depths of the jungle, you will hear the voices of black and white gibbons that fill the atmosphere. Sumatran Tigers and rhinoceros have also been reported here but are very hard to spot.
