About Vandavasi
Vandavasi or Wandiwash is a city and a region in Tiruvannamalai locale in the Indian province of Tamil Nadu. Starting at 2011, the town had a populace of 74,320. Vandavasi was the scene of an unequivocal fight in the eighteenth century war among France and the United Kingdom for the control of South Asia. The Battle of Wandiwash was a watershed in Indian history as it established British matchless quality in South Asia.
On 22 January 1760, a British power driven by Eyre Coote vanquished a French power driven by General Thomas Lally. As indicated by one rendition, Chennapattanam, now called Chennai, was named after Damera Chennappa Nayaka, the Nayaka of Kalahasthi and Vandavasi, father of Damera Venkatappa Kayaker from whom the English gained the town in 1639.
