About Tranquebar or Tharangambadi

The town of Tranquebar is located in the state of Tamil Nadu, and this place should feature in your itinerary plainly for its peaceful surroundings and unexplored beauty. The town of Tranquebar is also located quite near to Chennai, and it is thus well accessible. Tranquebar is an excellent place to relax and let go of your daily worries as tourists throng here quite rarely, and the place is not too crowded like the other cities and towns that are present in the coastline of Tamil Nadu.

There are many magnificent churches in the town of Tranquebar, and you can witness some enthralling festivities when Christian pilgrims flock here to visit the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church every once in a while. Tranquebar was also a very popular Danish settlement in the 18th century, and the town was taken over by the British during the early years of the 19th century. For this reason, many structures of Danish heritage still stand tall in this region.

The Danish fort is a must see location once you are in the town of Tranquebar. Built in the year 1620, this fort is enormous and can keep you in awe. The fort has been reconstructed and remodeled many times, but the place still has the charm and feel of a bygone era of colonial India. The fort also stands overlooking the sea, so you can get some picturesque views from here.
