Tiruchirappalli Rock Fort

Tiruchirappalli Rock Fort is a historic Fort and temple complex built on an ancient rock. It is located in the city of Trichy, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is constructed on a 273 ft high rock. There are 2 Hindu temples inside the Rock Fort, the Uchchi Pillaiyar Koil and The Shiva Temple. Geologically the 83 m high rock may date to over 1 billion years ago. The rock is said to be one of the oldest formations in the world. Is is 3.8 billion years old.

One may see a few shrines mostly on the right hand sight and also some very old statues. The Rock Fort inhabits Lord Ganesha who sits on the top of the rocks, is said to be the beginning or core of the city. Other local tourist attraction include the famous Pallava-era Ganesha Temple and The Nayaka-era Fort. The Fort complex has witnessed fears battles between Madhurai Nayakas and Bijapur, Carnatic and Maratha forces
