Thekkinkadu Maidan

Thekkinkadu Maidan is located in the middle of Thrissur city of Kerala kingdom in India. This hillock which seats the Vadakkumnathan Temple, is an open floor inside the centre of the Thrissur city which is below the custody of the Cochin Devaswom Board. It hosts the superb cultural festival Thrissur Pooram, that is considered the Mother of all Poorams in Kerala. Thekkinkadu Maidan became a dense wooded area in olden days.

All kinds of wild animals used to roam inside the wooded area wherein wanted criminals of Thrissur were finished. The squaddies used to push the criminals to dense wooded area from one the Vadakkumnatha Temple gates. Later, Maharaja of Cochin, Rama Varma Sakthan Thampuran cleared the Thekkinkadu Maidan notwithstanding the resistance of Brahmin priests and different orthodox phase of human beings.

Till 1970, there have been no teaks in the Maidan. In the 1970s Cochin Devaswom Board planted some teaks trees. Till 1928, the Thekkinkadu Maidan turned into with the Sanitary Board. In 1928 it become passed over to Thrissur Municipality while it become formed. In 1934, Diwan Paruvakad Narayanan Nair gave the Maidan to Cochin Devaswom Board. The handiest circumstance for the transfer turned into that any organization can organise meeting or pageant without any problem.
