Tapovan

Tapovan is known as a popular travel spot in Asia. Tapovan comes from the two root words tapas - meaning penance and vana, meaning forest or thicket. Tapovan is base camp for shivlinga peak in Uttarakhand hills. This trek is popular with both pilgrims as well as avid- trekkers.

Tapovan area is full of meadows, streams and flowering plants and the meadows are considered as one of the best high altitude meadows in India. Gaumukh-Tapovan trek, one of the most gratifying treks in India. One will pass through many beautiful glaciers like Gangotri Glacier, Meru Glacier and Kirti Bamak Glacier while trekking. Also, one will witness the beautiful views of some of the leading peaks like Mt. Shivling Peak, Gangotri group of Peak, and Kedardome Peak. The trek and site of Tapovan also offer excellent views of the Nanda Devi range.
