St. Mary Forane Church

Well known as Champakulam Kalloorkadu, St many Forane Church is one of the oldest churches of India. Regarded as the mother of all Catholic Syrian churches, this is the first church which was built under Niranam. This was founded by the St.Thomas.

The history, as well as legend of this church, is quite well known to the public in this area. This 9th-century beauty was built on the land which was donated to the Brahmin family of Ettanasseri. This was due to the prayers which were answered by Virgin Mary to the Brahmin family. Due to the blessing received by Virgin Mary, a male heir was finally born in their family, so they donated the land which led to the start of the construction of this holy place.

Being a completely white structure, this structure boasts of Portuguese and Syrian architecture.being the reason for the reconciliation between Catholic and Jacobian Syrians, this church stands as the peace symbol. Tourists can expect many church-related festivals such as the annual feast which is celebrated in honor of St.Sebastian. One can witness many fireworks and the structure is beautifully illuminated at night.
