About St annes church
Another vital point of interest of Virajpet is St. Anne's Church worked in the Gothic style. A portion of the Christians from Mangalore, who were coercively taken by Tipu Sultan to Periapatna and changed over to Islam, had figured out how to get away. They were offered asylum by Dodda Veerarajendra at Virajpet. The Raja requested the working of a congregation in 1792 and conceded land and subsidizes for the development. In 1868, the structure was disassembled and in its place the current church was built.Dodda Veerarajendra talented a gold crown, a metal light, and a fancy metal box to the congregation. Just the metal light, referred to locally as 'kuthu bolucha', is still in the congregation. The engraving 'V' in Kannada for Veerarajendra and the words – 'Nalaknad Aramane' are scratched on the light.
