Sindhudurg

Sindhudurg is an authoritative locale in the territory of Maharashtra in India, which was cut out of the recent Ratnagiri District. The region central command is situated at Oros. The locale possesses a region of 5207 km² and has a populace of 849,651 of which 12.59% were urban starting at 2011. The region is named after the post of Sindhudurg which signifies "fortress in the ocean", which lies on a rough island simply off the shore of Malvan.

Sindhudurg fortification, worked in the sixteenth century by King Shivaji is the main fortress which has Shivaji's sanctuary inside the post and a palm engraving of King Shivaji. Sindhudurg region has 37 strongholds, the most elevated number of fortresses in Maharashtra and also a wide range of fortifications Jaldurg – Sea, Bhuikot – post ashore and Giri-fortress on ridge.

Sindhudurg is verged on the north by Ratnagiri District, on the south by the territory of Goa, on the west by the Arabian Sea, and toward the east over the peak of the Western Ghats or Sahyadris is Kolhapur District. Sindhudurg is a piece of Konkan beach front district, a restricted waterfront plain in western Maharashtra which lies between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. Sindhudurg has a semi-tropical atmosphere and stays warm and moist in the greater part of the year.
