About Sheesh Mahal
Sheesh Mahal is another famous palace in Patiala. Built by Maharaja Narinder Singh in 1847, this palace has one of its section decorated with colored glass and mirror work. It is aptly known as the Palace of mirror.
Situated behind the Moti Bagh palace, visitors can explore this triple storied building and walk on the bridge, known as Lakshman Jhoola across the artificial Lake in the center of the palace.
The Sheesh Mahal was known to be the residential place of the Maharajas of Patiala. The walls and ceilings throw an artistic look. The artwork of the palace throws light on the vision of Bihari, Surdas and Keshav in poetic form. The colourful and antique paintings of these artists tell old stories.
Tourists can also visit the museum in the Sheesh Mahal, where there are many paintings like the Kangra paintings that depict the Krishna Lila. There are Tibetan artwork, Punjab's ivory work, Kashmir artwork and old wooden furniture. One can explore the coin collection and enjoy the heritage festivals organized by Sheesh Mahal several times a year.
