Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is popular well known with the name salim ali bird sanctuary. This bird sanctuary spreads over a whopping area of 25 sq kilometres and is nesteld at the foots of western ghats. This area has about 250 bird species to boast for, and is a haven for bird watchers. Having 100’s of indigenous and migratory birds, this area is declared as the bird sanctuary. What more reason required by a nature lover to visit this place? Tourists from far and wide come here to just watch the indeginus species.

This scantury is named after dr. salim ali who was an ornithologists. His contribution towards the study of bird species was extreme. This beautiful well maintained place is located around 73.5 km from Munnar city. This is a must visit place for any tourist who come to visit this hill station. The indigenous species which includes are fairy bluebird, rose billed roller, and crested serpant (you would not wish to see the last one though!).

Some exotic species like nilgiri wood pigeon and great Indian hornbill is also found in this place. According to studies, the best time to visit this place is from December to February as in this particular range many migratory birds flock to this place. Other attractions includes taxidermic museum.
