About Rumtek Monastery

Talking about monasteries of India, Rumtek Monastery is one of the largest and most beautiful monastery of India. When you climb up the monastery, you can see a picturesque and amazing view of the entire Gangtok. This is one of the most finely built monastery in entire India. This was originally called as Dharma Chakra Center and later was named as Rumtek Monastery.

Well, what makes this monastery stand out from the crowd? The answer to this question lies in the preserved golden stupas which belonged to the 16th Karmapa. This monastery was said to be used as a storehouse before being turned into a monastery. This monastery was built with an aim to promote Buddhism in India. This is quite sarcastic as Buddhism was originated in India. This splendid work of art is worth a visit!
