This river is rich in mineral assets, the valley is home to huge scale mining and modern action. Prior known as the Sorrow of Bengal due to its attacking surges in the fields of West Bengal, the Damodar and its tributaries have been to some degree restrained with the development of a few dams. It is the most contaminated stream of India by 2003.
