About Ripon Building

The Ripon Building is the seat of the Greater Chennai Corporation in Chennai Madras, Tamil Nadu. It is a first-class instance of the Neoclassical fashion of architecture, a mixture of, Ionic and Corinthian. The Ripon Building is an all-white shape and is placed close to the Chennai Central railway station. Commissioned in the year 1913, Ripon Building changed into designed by G.S.T. Harris. It turned into constructed by using Loganatha Mudaliar, and took four years to build at a cost of 750,000, together with a sum of 1550,000 paid to Mudaliar.

The Ripon constructing became named after Lord Ripon, Governor-General of British India and the Father of nearby self-authorities. Earl of Minto, the then Viceroy and Governor General of India laid the muse on 12 December 1909. The Municipal Corporation of Madras, after functioning from several other locations which include Errabalu Chetty Street, settled at Ripon building in 1913, with P. L. Moore because the President of the Municipal Corporation on the time of the inauguration. The inaugural feature became attended by way of over 3,000 of the town's elite.
