About Relax In a House Boat in Kerala

A houseboat cruise in Kerala is a uniquely different experience that must not be missed. The boat cruised along narrow canals where we saw the full glory of village life. People traveled in canoes to reach the main land as many houses there do not have an approach road. Known as Kettuvallams, these boats were eventually designed to attract tourists – to give them a brand new way of exploring God’s own country. The USP of the houseboats in Kerala is still the rustic, hand-hewn look of yore, but they have now been upscale to suit the needs of the modern tourist. Now Kettuvallams are cleverly designed to be self-sufficient units complete with western toilets and multiple bedrooms. The curved shape of the hull was countered with planks, and windows were carved into the weaving to offer views and let in air and light.
