Raikot

Raikot is a city and civil committee in Ludhiana area in Indian province of Punjab. Raikot was established by Rai Ahmad in 1648. Rai Kalha III, the head of Raikot had the pleasure of stretching out seva and accommodation to Guru Gobind Singh ji in 1705, at the danger of losing everything including his life and that of his family. Master sahib, in thankfulness and appreciation gave Ganga Sagar, a sword and a wooden rehel to Rai Kalha as close to home presents for his overcome and bold act.

Rai Inayat Khan of Raikot and Jagraon is specified as a Chief in 'Boss and Families of Note in Punjab-1909 and 1940. Rai Aziz Ullah Khan ex MP Pakistan is the grandson of Rai Inayat Khan. The Chiefs of Rai Kot who, toward the start of the century, had a significant area, were Muhammadan Rajputs, foreigners from Jaisalmer, which Tulsi Das, their awesome precursor, left in 1323, settling at Mogal, a short time later Faridkot, and receiving the Mnhammadan confidence. His second child Gopal, established Shahjahanpur in the Ludhiana area, and Rai Kalha, another of his relatives, the town of Talwandi in 1478.

The family happened to some significance and, around 1620, acquired ownership of the town of Ludhiana, which had been established 140 years previously by Yusaf and Nihang, two Lodi Chiefs, whence the name of the town. From Ludhiana the Rai Kot Chiefs were ousted by Sahib Singh Bedi, however they a short time later recouped it ; and, toward the finish of the eighteenth century, claimed Rai Kot, Talwandi, Jhandiala, Jagraon, Baddowala, Ludhiana, Basia and different regions.
