About Purba Medinipur
Purba Medinipur district is an administrative unit in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the southernmost district of Medinipur division, one of the five administrative divisions of West Bengal. The base camp in Tamluk. It was framed on 1 January 2002 after the Partition of Medinipur into Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur which lies at the northern and western fringe of it. The province of Odisha is at the southwest outskirt; the Bay of Bengal lies in the south; the Hooghly stream and South 24 Parganas locale toward the east; and Howrah area toward the north-east.
Purba Medinipur is framed of the sub-divisions of Tamluk, Contai and Haldia of recent Medinipur locale. Another sub-division, Egra has been made out of the past Contai sub-division amid the segment of Medinipur. The state government has proposed to rename the area as Tamralipta locale after the antiquated port city of Tamralipta which used to lie close to the advanced region base camp. Purba Medinipur saw numerous political developments amid the British Raj. A parallel government named the Tamralipta Jatiya Sarkar was shaped amid the Quit India Movement in Tamluk. In 2007, Purba Medinipur saw the Nandigram savagery, an occurrence of police terminating that executed 14 ranchers.
