Nancowry Island

Nancowry is an island in the central part of the Nicobar Island chain, located in the north east Indian Ocean between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The island is an island within Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is northeast of Lapat, south of Itoi and east of Tapani.

Nancowry Island was very popular in the past among the seafarers, especially the people of Sumatra, Malaysia and China. The place has the presence of fine natural harbor. It was believed that many of these travelers also settled down with the natives. Christianity and Islam are the main religion of the inhabitants of the Nancowry Island.

Nancowry Island has an elevation of one hundred and thirty-three meters. The island is perfect for nature explorer and campaigning, trekking and boating. The place is devoid of much modern facilities which perhaps gives one the lifestyle exploring themselves with the nature rather than electronic world.
