About Mussoorie
Mussoorie is picturesque town located in the north of Uttarakhand at about 2000 m above the sea level. Despite of having a population of just 26,069 people, it is renowned for its warm hospitality. The best time to visit Mussoorie is from September to June and hence, due to its all round the year pleasant climate, it is a favourite spot for both honeymooners and adventurers alike. Mussoorie spell bounds tourists with the magnificent views of its valleys, dense green forest and the view of the snow-clad Himalayas. It is also a favourite spot for trekkers and campers as the valley is still full of many beautiful spots that are still pristine and undiscovered and provide peace and solace in the lap of nature. Tourists can avail the service of ious camp which will make you camp right by the stream side and trek in the dense forests.
Mussoorie was a popular hill station for the Britishers, and their imprint can be seen in many areas of the town. The Kempty Falls is one of the most popular tourist spot and it is daily visited by hordes of tourists. The water falls at a height of over 40 ft from the midst of rock and is a scenic sight even from a distance. While walking towards the Kempty falls, you come across a huge market where you can buy souvenirs to take back home. Other falls that can be visited are Bhatta Falls, Jharipani Fall and Mossy Fall. The Gun Hill is the second highest point in Mussoorie where the majestic Himalayan peaks are clearly visible on a clear day. You can either reach Gun Hill by foot by the way of the mall or by rope way.
If you are a lover of sun setting between the mountains, you should definitely visit Camel's back road and can be reached by the help of an electric trolley. It is name so because the place resembles a sitting camel. One can also enjoy long walks and horse riding here. For recreational activities you can visit Lake Mist, which is situated 5 km before Kempty Falls and is a good picnic spot with accommodation and restaurant facilities, boating is also available there and Municipal Garden which is a picnic spot having a beautiful garden and an artificial mini lake with paddled boating facility. Other spots that can be visited are Depot Hill, Lal Tibba, Happy Valley, Jawahar Aquarium, Nag Devta Temple, Jwalaji Temple Benog Hill etc.
The fairs and festivals of Mussoorie has it own charm, you must include these in your itenary and witness the festivals of Garhwali, Tapkeshwar fairs, Hatkalika fair, Mata Murti ka Mela, Kunjpuri fair, Surlhanda Devi Mela etc. You can even shop till you can drop at the mall which is one of the favoured shopping spot situated in the center of Mussoorie. You buy an array of products ranging from woollens, fabric wall hangings, imported goods, Tibetan metal ware to wooden items, bowls, trays, cane baskets and jewellery.
This place really offers a respite from the maddening crowds of the city. Mussoorie is best for those who want to spend their time appreciating the glory of nature.
