Mount Kalsubai

Mount Kalsubai is the highest peak in the Sahyadri ranges. It is famous for trekking. The mountain summit lies at an elevation of 1646 meters above sea-level. This makes it the highest point in Maharashtra which has earned it the title ‘Everest of Maharashtra’.

The trekking route to the top of the peak is sufficiently challenging. There are man-made stairs now, for people who do not wish to trek. The view from the mountain top is spectacular. The hills are absolutely enchanting in their beauty. There is a local anecdote about the name of the mountain. It is believed that a woman named Kalsu Bai was forcibly expelled from her village. She climbed the mountain and lived the remaining days of her life there. Hence, the name Mount Kalsubai.
