About Martyrs Memorial

The Martyr's Memorial became built in remembrance of the liberty strugglers of India in Chandigarh. The monument become inaugurated within the month of August in 2006 through the president of India then, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Azad. The Martyr's Memorial is among one among the biggest warfare memorials in India. It has over 8459 names of martyred soldiers from the Indian navy, navy and air pressure seeing that 1947.

The memorial lists the names of the deceased soldiers from Punjab, Union Territory of Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. The memorial is an expression of gratefulness to the ones courageous hearts, who sacrificed their lives for the liberty and betterment of the country. The basis stone for the memorial become laid within the year 2004, with the aid of the then Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh, Lt. Gen. JFR Jacob. When laying the foundation stone, he named the monument, the ‘Shandar Yaadgar’.
