About Lingaraj Temple

It is believed to be the oldest and the largest temple of Bhubhneswar. One cannot simply skip this temple on a religious tour to Bhubhneswar. Highly revered by the Hindu, the temple is easily accessible from the city and attracts many pilgrims and tourists from across the country.

The name Lingaraj means the king of Lingas, where Lingala refers to the phallic form of Lord Shiva. The temple was built in 11th century by King Jajati Keshari of Soma Vansh. The temple has been referred I'm Brahma Purana.

The temple has a remarkable architecture, which is worth eyeing. It has a slight form of Kalinga architecture style. The sculptures look beautiful. The temple stands erect in red sandstone. The temple complex is large and covers a wide area of the city. The Lingaraj temple has four parts. It is a depiction of the rich legacy of Indian culture and tradition.
