Karnala Fort

Karnala Fort is a hill fortress in Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel metropolis. Currently it's far a covered place mendacity within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It become a castle of strategic importance as it omitted the Bor pass which linked the Konkan coast to the interior of Maharashtra and turned into the principle alternate path among those areas. The castle become in all likelihood built before 1400, below Devagiri Yadavs and the Tughlaq rulers, Karnala became the capital of the north Konkan districts in their respective empires.

It later fell below the command of the Gujarat Sultanate but in 1540 was taken over by using Nizam Shah of Ahmednagar. The Gujarat sultans then asked the help of the Dom Francisco de Menenzes the commanding officer of the Portuguese at Bassiez to win it again. He ordered 500 of his soldiers to Karnala castle and that they were capable of capture it. The castle turned into left in price of the Gujarat Sultanate but with Portuguese garrisons.
