About Kallur
Kallur is a large village situated in Manvi Taluk, around 21 km from the city of Raichur. This village is surrounded by an old wall and five gates that appear to belong to the Muslim period. Three of the five gates are known by the names of the town that they lead to namely Kalmala Darwaza, Manvi Darwaza and Raichur Darwaza. The other two don’t have any names.
This village is also home to six temples amongst which, the Markandeshwara Temple is the most popular one. This temple is regarded as the oldest one and its structure comprises several black polished stone pillars having ancient carvings on them. At several other sites of this village, inscriptions belonging to the period of the Chalukyas of Kalyana are also seen.
