Gaumukh Trek

Gangotri-Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a popular trek, located at the base of the Gangotri glacier. The important thing to do when a tourists’ reach, here is to take permission from (D.F.O.) District forest officer Tekla, Kotbangla Rd Uttarkashi or Chief wildlife warden 5, Chandrabani Mohabewala near ISBT Dehradun. The trek route of Gaumukh begins from Gangotri which is about 18 km from Gomukh. The trek gives a fantastic trek route as the trekkers pass through an orchard of coniferous pine trees at Chirbasa and birch at Bhojbasa. Tapovan is the peaks of the Garhwal. To make the camping experience better the tourist can visit at the base of the Shivling peak at an altitude of 6543m which is known as the Matterhorn of Garhwal. The Gangotri Tapovan trekking is made for all adventure lovers to give them an experience of Mountain Climbing, Rock Climbing and glacier traverse. Blue Mountain goats also known as Bharal by locals are the common sight on the mountain ridges. The beautiful views of peaks like Mt. Shivling Peak, Gangotri group of Peak, and Kedardome Peak can be seen in the trek. The trekkers pass through beautiful glaciers like Gangotri Glacier, Meru Glacier and Kirti Bamak Glacier.
