About Giant Chamba Statue

The Giant Chamba Statue is situated in the Nubra Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. The gigantic statue inhabits on the hill of Diskit Gompa and the statue is visible to every other. The statue is inaugurated by Dalai Lama in the year 2010. Many historically episodes are said to happen where some believe it was an age old statue standing from the Kushan Period where many say it was during the 8th Century.

The statue is blend of early Buddhist art. Mulbek gompa, the main monastery of the area is perched atop a rocky hill that dominates the valley below. In the past this site used to serve as an outpost to guard the caravan route between Kashmir and Ladakh. The place is dignified with certain aura and it spread such colorful palate in the midst of high lands which give a picturesque view.
