About Faridkot
Faridkot is a City in the south-western Punjab, India. It is the home office of the Faridkot locale. The Faridkot District was a piece of the past Ferozepur Division however in the year 1996, Faridkot Division was built up with a Divisional headquarter at Faridkot which incorporates Faridkot, Bathinda and Mansa regions. The city is named in the respect of Baba Farid, an adored thirteenth century Sufi holy person whose sanctum is situated in Pakpattan, Pakistan. The town of Faridkot was established amid this century as Mokalhar by Raja Mokalsi, the grandson of Rai Munj, a Bhatti Chief of Bhatnair, Rajasthan. As per a prevalent old stories, the Raja renamed Mokalhar to Faridkot after Baba Farid visited the town.
It remained the capital amid the rule of Mokalsi's child Jairsi and Wairsi. Faridkot was cut out as a different locale on 7 August 1972 out of the territories of recent Bathinda District Faridkot Tehsil and Ferozepur District Moga and Muktsar Tehsils. Further, in November 1995 the Faridkot District was trifurcated when two of its sub divisions viz. Muktsar and Moga were given the status of autonomous districts. The Municipal Council Faridkot appeared in the year 1948 and now has a Class - I status. Uma Grover is the present President of the chamber and Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon of Indian National Congress is the individual from Legislative Assembly from the town chose in 2017.
