About Coonan Kurishu Shrine
The Coonan Kurishu Shrine or the Bent Cross church is one of the notable houses of worship of Kochi. The congregation is situated in the middle of a line of shops in one of the busiest lanes of Kochi, which is Mattancherry.
This holy place, in the year 1653 was where very nearly 25,000 Syrian Christians gathered and attached long ropes to the antiquated cross at Mattancherry. While pulling the ropes these Christians promised of not complying with the Latin Archbishops or be under the Jesuits. Tourists come here from all over the world with their family members and friends.
