About Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Known for its eco-tourism activities, chinar wildlife sanctuary is located in the glorious part of Idukki district which falls on the western ghts area. This place is literally protected by nature due to western ghats. The category of tourists like nature lover and wildlife enthusiast visit this place for watching endangered species like a giant grizzled squirrel. The other fauna includes gaur, panther, and even monkeys!

Well-known for its repository of medical plants, chinar wildlife sanctuary boasts a good population of the endangered species like a grizzled giant squirrel, star tortoise, tufted grey langur, spotted deer, crocodiles and even tiger. One may even find various insects on the way!

This sanctuary boasts of having around 150 species of animals, 225 recorded species of birds and around 1000 species of flowering plants. There are a ton of other medicinal plants in the forests. Due to its unique topography, this place has deciduous forests. The various activities which include in here are- river, jungle trekking, nature walk, camping etc.
