Butterfly museum

The butterfly museum in Meghalaya is home to 1600 different species of butterflies, moths and insects, having various colours and patterns. They have been gathered from all over the world and stored here. The objective of the museum was to conserve the rare and fascinating species of the colourful butterflies and moths.

It is situated in Riatsamthiah, the institution that initiated the breeding program for butterflies. Most of the species belong to the province of Meghalaya itself. The concept of breeding program emerged out to be a full fledged Butterfly and moth anthology. There are also some rare species of beetles preserved here. One can visit the museum to eye the rare species of butterfly and learn about the lifespan and habitat of the various species.
