The Kumarakom bird sanctuary is the most suitable place in Kerala to enjoy bird watching. This sanctuary is situated in Kottayam district of Kerala. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 14 acres on the southern banks of kavanar river.

The main attractions are the local birds which this sanctuary offers. The wild fauna ranges from waterfowl, cuckoo, migratory birds such as heron, brahminy kite etc are found at this very place. One can even spot the rare Siberian crane If lucky enough. This place also includes a resort which is owned by Kerala tourism development corporation.
