About Badavilinga Temple

Badavilinga Temple is a extraordinary temple in Hampi devoted to Lord Shiva. The Hindu deity Shiva is worshipped within the shape of a Linga on this temple. The Badavilinga temple is positioned near the Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. Tourists as well as devotees flock to the temple throughout the year. The Badavilinga Temple in Hampi has the largest monolithic Shiva Linga in Hampi. The Shiva Linga has a three eye mark drawn on it in line carving. The 3 eye mark depicts the 3 eyes of Lord Shiva. The beautiful Linga is manufactured from black stone. It has a top of 3 meters.
It is thought that the temple has been in lifestyles for the reason that length of the Vijayanagara Empire. Devotees come here from some distance and close to to worship the Shiva Linga. The name Badavilinga is a mixture of phrases – Badva and Linga. In the neighborhood language Badva approach poor and Linga represents Shiva. Legend has it that the Shiva Linga located within the temple was commissioned with the aid of a poverty- peasant girl. Hence the temple got here to be called Badavilinga Temple.
